Question: What is HTML?

Answer:

HTML is the language for describing the structure of Web pages. HTML gives authors the means to:
- Publish online documents with headings, text, tables, lists, photos, etc.
- Retrieve online information via hypertext links, at the click of a button.
- Design forms for conducting transactions with remote services, for use in searching for information, making reservations, ordering products, etc.
- Include spread-sheets, video clips, sound clips, and other applications directly in their documents.

Question: What is CSS?

Answer:

CSS is the language for describing the presentation of Web pages, including colors, layout, and fonts. It allows to adapt the presentation to different types of devices, such as large screens, small screens, or printers. CSS is independent of HTML and can be used with any XML-based markup language. The separation of HTML from CSS makes it easier to maintain sites, share style sheets across pages, and tailor pages to different environments. This is referred to as the separation of structure (or: content) from presentation.

Question: How long will it take for my web site to be designed?

Answer:

The timescale of a website design project is often dictated by the client. If you have a deadline in mind we will endeavor to meet it for you. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent to us by the client.

Answer:

In the majority of cases a meeting isn’t necessary and most of our websites are generally completed with contact via email and telephone only. We place suggested website designs onto the Internet in a private place where only yourselves and us can view the content. We then liaise with you regularly to discuss the web designs in order that the website design and functionality is exactly as you wish.

Question: How many pages can I have on my web site?

Answer:

As many as you like. From a search engines point a view – The more the better!

Ask yourself, “Does my business need 24-hour exposure 7 days a week, 365 days a year?” The answer is obvious. The benefits of a website are innumerable.

You may move your website to another web hosting service at any time. Once your website design has been completed, we send you a copy of the website on cd. This copy of your website is for your retention

Question: When can I update my website content?

Answer:

If the website we have designed for you includes a Content Management System then you can access your administration areas from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection and make updates instantly as frequently as you wish. If your website is a smaller website and was designed without using this type of system and you don’t have any html. skills, then we can update the website for you. Our charges are very reasonable..

Question: In what format should I supply words and photographs about my business for my new website?

Answer:

It is helpful to us if you are able to provide text and photographs in electronic form – for example, the files output by a digital camera and the words in MS word or similar format. If this is not possible, we can help get your information ready for use on the website.

Question: Will everyone see my web site the same?

Answer:

Your website visitors will see some things differently depending on their browser, screen resolution setting and their individual computer settings. We design sites with that in mind and preview them in several browser types and resolution settings before publishing. Obviously as technology alters then eventually all websites may need reevaluation.

Finally, we gladly work with Internet startup companies, providing the site design, logo, copywriting, search engine compatibility and other elements you need to succeed.

Question: Do you use Flash animation in your website design?

Answer:

Yes we do use flash as and when required. It is important to note that there are times when flash animations can be an asset but it would be unwise to use “flash” to create an entire website or even entire pages of your website as search engines are not able to read the content of flash and therefore any words used in animations will not be indexed by the search engines.

Generally it is best to use flash for smaller banners, advertisements or demonstrations and incorporate the flash animation into a web page which also includes some written text in html. This way the search engines will be able to index your information

Question: What is the difference between a “static” and a “dynamic” site?

Answer:

A static site is one that is written in HTML only. Each page is a separate document and there is no database that it draws on. What this means functionally is that the only way to edit the site is to go into each page and edit the HTML – so you’d either have to do it yourself using a webpage editor like FrontPage or pay me to go in and edit the site each time you wanted something changed.

A dynamic site is written using more complex code and can do a lot more. For instance, I can make an area where you can log in and change various parts of the site, such as adding information or products. This is because each page is constructed based on the information in a database, and the information in that database can be changed via another interface.

Dynamic sites can reduce ongoing maintenance costs if you don’t want to change things yourself with a webpage editor or with the HTML. They usually cost more to develop, as they require more complex coding and a content management utility needs to be developed to help you manage your website information.

Another benefit of dynamic sites is that they allow you to change only the content of the site and not the design, so you will not be able to accidentally break the visual style of the site. They have other benefits when sites start to get very large, as they make data management much more efficient and your site more expandable.

Many clients do a combination, having some dynamic areas such as a product catalog where they have to change information or pictures regularly, and leave other pages such as contact information as static pages.

Question: What can a website do for me?

Answer:

The answer to this question is neither short nor easy. With a little research and thought you can find hundreds of reasons, but there are a few general statements that may help you realize your needs. First a website can reach millions of people that might not otherwise be available. Second, customers can view products, services, or whatever you want to share from the comfort of their own home. No matter what type of business you are in, their are ways to grow and make money on the web for you.

Question: How do I get my website listed on search engines like Google or Yahoo?

Answer:

Modern search engines like to find your site naturally, through links to your site from other sites. Google especially relies on your incoming links to determine your popularity and relevance. For more information on submitting your site and how to promote your site through search engines, read my guide to

Question: What is a website architecture?

Answer:

It’s something that will help us visualize all your website sections. This its very helpful as it will help the development process. You as the owner, will know what areas your website will cover; a web designer will know exactly what pages he needs to build and the content developer (writer) will know what content he needs to build for each specific areas.

Question: What is a page layout?

Answer:

Page layout is the geometry of a page. It will help us to define how many regions will appear and how they are visually organized.

Question: What does website usability mean?

Answer:

It means the ease with which users can perform the tasks associated with your web site. Think of it as the quality of a user’s experience when interacting with a product or system. When we’re developing or creating a website, we try to keep things simple for your clients/prospects, if we keep it simple for them, then it will become a good website and it will invite people to contact you. Simple doesn’t mean low quality, it means doing all that is possible to make it better and understandable.

Question: How much input do I have?

Answer:

We welcome your input! The more input we receive from you the better able we will be to satisfy your needs and produce a site that will have the desired look and impact that you want.
It’s your website, we want it to look the way you want it.

Question: How many changes can I request to the design concept?

Answer:

We offer one revision cycle at no additional charge. We’ll make as many changes as necessary until it meets your approval after that at our normal hourly rate. We do ask for a final sign off to the design after the first revision cycle as we will have received all of your feedback by then.

Question: What kind of guarantee do you offer?

Answer:

We completely guarantee our design work. We provide an initial concept based on the creative brief we put together prior to designing. We then offer an entire round of revisions at no additional charge. In many cases revisions aren’t even needed, but when they are necessary – we take your entire “laundry list” and tweak until the design is just right. We also allow another final revision cycle of the website once all content has been inserted, to make sure your site is ready before launch.

Once the concept is finalized, your copy, links, forms and other elements will be added, and your site uploaded to your hosting service.

Question: Can you explain the design process?

Answer:

We have a five-step process as explained below:
Step One – Contact Us

Simply use our contact form to send us a short description of your project. Together we can review the details, specific requirements and the end result you want for your site.

Next, we’ll provide you with a quote for the total cost of your site creation. This interaction provides us both with the information and insights we need to decide if our relationship will be mutually beneficial. If we are agreed – we move onto step 2.
Step Two – Make a deposit

You’ll be provided with an invoice for 50% of the total of your quote. This deposit can be made via check by mail or in person. We also accept credit card and PayPal payments for smaller projects under $500.
Step Three -Your insight is vital!

While we may be the Web design professionals, you have vital information about your business, your customers, your likes and dislikes that will make your site a success. We will sit down with you via conference call or in person to establish a creative brief. This is a casual meeting that helps us understand your goals for look and feel of the website. Some of the topics cover navigation, calls to action and other elements required on the home and sub page templates we will be designing.
Step Four – Provide us with feedback

We will provide you with a design concept within 2 weeks of our creative briefing. Your feedback will help us to determine which direction to take. We may only need to do some tweaking, or we may be ready to go!
Step Five- Test and launch

Once you have approved the final design, we add and format the copy (text) to all the pages and set up your desired features, such as contact forms. Once everything has been approved by you, we upload your site to the Web and fully test its functionality. We make sure that your site can be viewed as intended in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and other common browsers and resolutions.

The Web design process generally takes anywhere from 3 – 6 weeks. To alleviate any unnecessary delays, we recommend that you have the majority of your copy written (and proofed) before your design begins. Echotam offers discounted copywriting and Web design combo packages as a one-stop solution to your Web design needs.

Question: Once the site is complete, can I make changes and updates to it myself?

Answer:

Yes,we offer an optional CMS (content management system) that we have developed for just this reason. We can customize the CMS to your professional website and add features specific to your organization. With this CMS you will be able to build new pages, edit existing pages, upload images, documents and more. We offer a simple CMS and advanced CMS with licensing options depending on the number of users in your organization.

Our CMS allows you to make text changes to your web site at your convenience, while maintaining site standards for style, layout, and code.
